Because of her role in horror films, she has been deemed as a "horror queen" by the media. The actress gained recognition for her character Marnie Michaels in the HBO comedy drama series Girls that aired from 2012 to 2017. The role garnered the actress nominations for the Critics' Choice Awards. Her breakout came in the character of Rose Armitage, in the horror movie Get Out (2017). The film earned her MTV Movie Awards nominations and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
